Heavy Vegetabele解散後、HVのRob Crow（guitar, vocals）とElea Tenuta（vocals）と
PhysicsのJason Soares（bass）の3人によって始められたバンド。
Rob曰く、自分とEleaがまだHeavy Vegetableのような音楽を続けたかった、とか。
1996年にEPをリリース後、Mario Rubalcaba（drums）が加入し、
1997年に1stアルバム、1999年に2ndアルバムをリリース。
その後、Mario Rubalcabaがシカゴへ引っ越したことにより脱退し、
Jason Soaresも自らのプロジェクト、Aspects Of Physicsの活動に専念するために脱退。
代わってCameron Jones（bass）とBrent Asbury（drums）が加入。
このメンバーになってから一度はレコーディングを行ったものの、結局はボツに。
2001年の初め頃にCameron Jonesがポートランドに引っ越したことにより脱退し、
代わってRumah SakitのKenseth Thibideauが加入。
2002年2月のライブを最後にEleaが脱退したことによりThingy名義での活動は終了。
残った3人のメンバーは新たなバンド名（Advertising？）で活動を継続。
（といってもRobはPinbackなどの活動で忙しいため実質的には活動休止状態の模様。）
